During the summer of 2017, I went to Italy for the first time. I went for the experience in culture and lifestyle, of course, but I was also invited to take a dance workshop there. The program is called Dance Italia. It was a 6 day contemporary workshop with teachers and dancers from around the world. I danced with Andy Nobel, Nicole Von Arx, Piero Leccese, Stephanie Nelson and Cristiano Fabbri. These six amazing dancers and choreographers have taught me so much throughout my experience. These classes we taught at a college level and the students were given college level choreography. I learned a whole new style of dance and a completely different way of learning. It was an unforgettable experience and I would love to go back again next year. The unique choreography and style of teaching has caused me to leave the workshop as a matured dancer as well as a matured person. Throughout this experience, you learn that dance isn’t all about how many turns you can do or how high you can kick your leg; it is about how you learn to move and feel every single movement emotionally and physically. You learn how dancing can be a story and can evoke a certain response from the viewer. You learn how important that connection between the dancer and the viewer is. I was able to experience this class with students from around the world. We entered as strangers and all left as friends. It was an unforgettable experience and a moment to remember.
